Sports and DD aka Doordarshan

To whom ever it may concern.

Please think twice, for gods sake, before you award sports telecast to Doordarshan. They are the last guys you want to choose. Beijing Olympics is the latest example. We have seen it before too.

The coverage is bad, the commentary pathetic. Overall, you get a very bad product.

I would have never watched Fedrer, Nadal, Sampras, Agassi, Schumacher, Tiger woods or Hamilton if these events were to be shown on DD. They just make the program boring to watch. They do that to excellence. You can just see the program quality difference when you watch it on DD v/s Start Sports/ESPN

My hate has not started recently. Way back in 1998, when Football world cup was telecasted on DD, they found a new way. Deferred Live. That is, they time shift the program and show it. That is a live match from 7:00-8:40 PM will be shown from 9:00-11:00 PM. They would finish all regular masalas and telecast the game when they run out of ideas or all their technicians go home.

They have now moved to a new tactic of 'National Interest'. They want to live telecast all cricket matches in India. That is, even if any other channel has bagged the rights. I still don’t get what is 'National Interest' in it? I would have understood if they take this stance for hockey (that’s India’s national game). They never used to show the matches properly earlier. Only after cricket telecast became a commercial jackpot, DD came up with this 'National Interest' funda. At least the baboos should have the guts to say we want to telecast it for 'Commercial Interest'.
